Mechanical and electrical installation tips for cylinder sensors

Mechanical installation

If the sensor is used to monitor both end positions of a short-stroke cylinder:

  • Place the sensor in the middle of the cylinder.
  • Tighten the clamp screw to secure it in the slot.
  • Mark the sensor position using the rubber “memory block”.

If the sensor is used to monitor 50 mm on one end of the cylinder:

  • Place the sensor at the end of the cylinder to be monitored.
  • Tighten the clamp screw to secure it in the slot.
  • Mark the sensor position using the rubber “memory block” or simply use the end of the sensor as the installation reference point.

The orientation of the sensor does not affect the measurement and switching behavior. If the signal needs to be inverted, refer to the device configuration page or use a command from the PLC directly.

System architecture for complete machine monitoring

Complete machine monitoring with IO-Link provides the most process transparency and the ability to glean actionable insights on the health of your cylinder sensors.

  • Continuous precise process data and other valuable IO-Link data are transferred via an IO-Link master to the control or SCADA system for processes considered critical.
